Assets & atmosphere starting to come together

We're past the halfway point of My First Game Jam—the pressure is on! Crunchygoose has been working hard creating the artwork for Mimi's Apothecary. Here's an update:

"I've been working on the character designs for our NPCs, Evera & Arlo! Below is the sketch, as well as the final version of Evera's neutral sprite.  I'm hoping to get all the different emotion sprites and backgrounds that we originally planned for, but we may need to cut some content based on time. 5 days left to grind!"

Mimi's Apothecary is a story-driven game with a linear narrative, inspired by My First Game Jam's theme–healing. We chose Ren'py to code this project because adding dialogue, artwork, and other assets is rather effortless.

Code for the first scene of Mimi's Apothecary

While the dialogue is coming together nicely, the simulation minigame is causing some problems. There's no good way to program it in Ren'py, so we're trying out creative solutions like using imagemaps or an inventory system. Running into complicated code during a game jam will always have you reevaluating the scope of your project.  Check back in a day or two to see how we solve this problem.
